the album really is a beautiful, thoughtful, cohesive piece of work about the journeyyyy, and to reduce or summarize bits and pieces would be especially at odds with this album. i feel like Good Story is a lot about process, being wrong about stuff over and over again but we moveee. just another lap. make amends with myself all the time. forgetting again forever like that. the point IS the whole thing, the full journey of how we got here and the continued process of life/learning
I respect you so much as a creative because you have the integrity to know that the audience you want to connect with won't connect with you thru the ways most artists are pressured to promote their work. The systems crumbles and we stop feeling it's pressure when we as audience and creator refuse to give in to it. Love the album so much, amd I love that I will want to keep coming back to it for months if not years.
the album is gorgeous- i have been listening as i walk through all the fallen leaves! I have been especially coming back to the track California and how some of the hard places I spent time in also shaped and strengthened me. one of my friends has just moved to a tiny town in France and I have sent it to her - it feels like a gift 🫶
Thank you for so eloquently reminding me that we always have a choice in how we create and promote our art. In how we move through the world. As a musician who’s been encouraged lately to make engaging vertical content of myself every day and to overshare parts of my life in mediums that I am sometimes uncomfortable sharing in, I really needed that reminder of agency.
Your album is beautiful. Getting Free and Mausoleum and Water Inside the Fence are my favorites. Well done :)
Yes 🖤 just ordered a CD btw!! ^___^ can't wait to listen, Eliza. I JUST DELETED SPOTIFY SO IM ABT TO LISTEN TO IT ON freaking QUOBUZ and hopefully they'll send u more than peanuts.
PS know that u have a free couch to sleep on when you tour in portland --that btw houses 2 tattoo artists that love to do art trades---- as well as 2 cats.
I just want to say that this essay has made me open my spotify and start listening to the album. (I'm new here and didn't even know you make music!) As a writer who is also against this attention economy, I know the guts it takes not to play that game and do things differently. Keep at it! You're a source of inspiration
Having only really followed your writing on here, I'm curious how you've built your fan base as a musician without the sort of TikTok-adjascent marketing tools and short form

Really loving the title track too. Also Better Song scratches something in my brain
The banjo (whatever that is) in better song is insane. I’ve listened to it too many times.
Also the outro pops off
Adore this essay. Your eloquence & thoughtfulness comes off the page so easily. & adore the album, Good Story especially is so hollowing and gorgeous

Can’t wait to hit the Philly show 🦋 way to stand on business as always. That uncompromising energy is contagious

THIS!!! you are a true artist and I admire your ability to write music that speaks for itself in an industry that adds so much unnecessary noise!!
