I remember being at a Hollywood party, watching in horror as someone put their cigarette out on a coffee-table copy of Slouching Towards Bethlehem. There is a point to be made about objectifying women’s art into one cool, digestible category made for reproduction and shallow consumption alone. Unfortunately, it’s not the point I’ve seen explored effectively in the “it girl” discourse.
