this is an articulation of lived emotional experience that joan didion herself would be in awe of reading. i always feel so lucky to read what you write.

I love the scraped knee metaphor. Oddly, the first time I fell off my bike and scraped my knee, it left a scar that I still have to this day. I've been stuck in a nostalgia spiral for too long that I wish would end and this is the perfect way to describe it.

I wish I could loan you the experience of that crippling, crushing sadness. I completely understand the appeal of it, but it would also be nice to take a break from it when it hits.

there's a sort of beauty to childhood scars. they have a way of reminding you you're a person and that you have not always felt (or not felt) This Way. sometimes, you can even remember the pain that came before the scar. this is beautifully written and made me remember the story behind a long scar on my shin that i forget about all too often.
